Hi everyone — Happy Saturday!
Last year was my first attempt at putting a capsule wardrobe together, and I loved sharing it with ya’ll. Watching the positive reactions from last year’s Fall capsule wardrobe was a highlight since starting These Merrilly Days! Looking back at it, I was learning on the go… I had a blank slate with zero expectations or biases; that creative freedom was so much fun.
Thanks to you, last year’s capsule was a huge success. I am so thankful we get to share this fashion journey together.
As we crossed the one year anniversary of last year’s inaugural Fall capsule, I wanted to re-share and give it a little refresh. I decided to look through items from last year’s capsule that are still available and include them in this year’s release. If certain items from last year were out of stock or discontinued, I looked for similar items (in some cases multiple) to replace them with. This should give plenty of choices and cover a wide range of budgets. Throughout the process, I’ve tried to stay true to certain styling: simple, casual, comfortable, and classy. My goal is to use the styling elements to make a bold fashion statement. Simple is not boring!
ABOUT THE CAPSULE:
It’s all over the place, and I love that. You’re probably not going to find anything similar on Pinterest because there’s no rhyme or reason to it. It’s not just a FALL-themed style, nor does it only adhere to Fall colors and themes. But that’s one of the reasons I love it. It has enough of a Fall vibe that it checks the boxes, but remains simple enough to wear throughout the year!
I hope you find a little inspiration to create outfits you feel comfortable in, whether it’s items you already have in your closet or something you purchase from this capsule. I hope you love it and will come back next weekend when I launch two NEW Fall capsules!
Next weekend there will be a standard Fall capsule that includes layering options, sweaters and everything you want to wear when it cools down outside. The second capsule will be for my friends that live in warmer climates, like me.
Last year we lived in Virginia and this year we are finally at home in Florida. Obviously, there is going to be a drastic change in the weather so I created a small collection of pieces we can wear until it turns cooler, which is hopefully November.

GRAPHIC TEE
I’m a sucker for a good graphic top and I found one last year at Abercrombie. This year I found one from H&M that I am obsessed with! H&M always has a really good variety no matter the season and they’re well priced.
Sizing details: The H&M graphic tee is naturally oversized, however I would still go up to a medium because I have a long torso.

NEUTRAL CARDIGAN
A neutral cardigan is a closet staple for anytime of the year but this blazer style from J.Crew really shines in the Fall and Spring. It’s nice enough to wear to the office and great for teachers in cold classrooms. It’s made from a mid to heavy weight fabric and the quality is the reason it’s at a higher price point.
Sizing details: It’s not super oversized but it does have a relaxed fit. I’m wearing an XS and that would be my normal size. If you are petite you could definitely size down one if you want to.

GRAPHIC SWEATSHIRT
This was a splurge for me.
I just loved the color so much and that’s what drew me in. There is a little bit of distressing and tiny holes that are actually meant to be there. I opened the bag and started to freak out because I saw a tiny hole and thought it arrived damaged. 🙂
Nope. It’s actually supposed to be that way. Lastly, the inside is Terry so it’s not a heavy fleece.
Sizing details: I’m wearing a small and I love the oversized feel. I almost bought an XS but I’m glad I stuck with the small. The XS wouldn’t have been long enough for leggings. Get your normal size or go up one size for extra length and a little more room.

PLAID SHACKET
Last year, I found an amazing plaid shacket from H&M and this year I found a plaid shacket at Forever 21…… and it’s on sale!
With all shacket’s, I typically recommend wearing a long sleeve because some do not have the softest lining even though they are super cute.
Sizing details: Shacket’s are meant to be oversized. I ordered the new one in a medium because Forever 21 is more of a Junior’s sizing. If you are petite, you could probably get your normal size. The model is wearing a small for size reference.

BLACK SWEATER
This black sweater is from Amazon is from my last years capsule. This sweater is still a fall staple and it’s from their exclusive ‘Daily Ritual’ line. It’s soft and comes in several colors however it’s not a naturally oversized sweater. I went up 2 sizes to get this boyfriend fit so it could be worn with leggings. It’s right under $32.
Sizing details: I’m wearing a LARGE to make it look oversized. Go up one to two sizes if you want this look.

WAFFLE TOP
Walmart makes these tunic tops and I love them. This one is available in 3 other colors, including black. It’s $16 and perfect for leggings. It’s very soft and thin enough to layer under jackets without feeling bulky.
Sizing details: Get your normal size or go down if you’re in between sizes. I would purchase a small.

UTILITY JACKET | SLIM STRAIGHT JEANS
The new utility jacket I found this year is actually the same brand as last years’.
Sizing details: They are typically true to size so I would recommend getting your normal size or going up one if you plan to wear bulky tops or sweaters.
I wore these slim straight jeans 24/7 last year and still wear them all the time. The cut is perfect because they hug your hips and thigh but aren’t stuck to your legs like skinny jeans. The denim isn’t extremely rigid, however they aren’t super stretchy either.
Sizing details: I recommend getting your normal size in these. I’m wearing a 0/25 regular.

DENIM JACKET
The Free People denim jacket is actually still in stock but in the medium wash instead of the light wash I’m wearing below. You have to cut the pockets open and the hood is not detachable. It’s a higher price point but I just really loved the oversized fit. I have linked other similar options HERE.
Sizing details: The XS was out of stock when I bought it so I got a small instead. I was afraid it would be way too big but I’m actually really happy with the fit. Get your normal size or however you prefer you jackets to fit.

GREY HOODIE | BLACK LEGGINGS
This year I updated the grey hoodie and it is from Loft. The new grey hoodie is amazing quality and is perfect for layering with the Amazon tunic tee. (go up one size in the Amazon tunic)
It’s currently on sale and comes in a few other colors, like green, black and maroon.
Sizing details: I’m wearing an XS. Get your normal size or go down one. It just depends on how you want it to fit.
SPANX leggings: These run really long! I sized down in lengths to a small short. I’m 5’6″ and if you are shorter than me you absolutely need to size down in length.

WHITE SNEAKERS
The sneakers I’m wearing with all of these outfits are an old pair I bought at Madewell. I have linked a few similar pairs below. I personally love these J.Crew sneakers, they are so comfortable and go with every outfit!
