No extensions and minimal highlights
February 2020
Heavy highlighting and hand two rows of hand tied extensions. I was highlighting every three months and moving my extensions up every six to seven weeks.
The left picture is after almost two years of using several different types of extensions and bleaching my hair from constant highlights. I endured stress from moving, the pandemic, juggling work and mom life. We were in the midst of our eighth military move this Summer along with trying to stay safe because of COVID and the stress was a lot to bear.
I can’t say there is one thing that caused my hair breakage and loss but I can tell you when I add all of those things together, you will most definitely have this outcome.
I have naturally fine, thin hair and having hand tied extensions pull on my roots is a bad combination.

What did you use to help repair your dry, brittle and damaged ends you talk about??
Below are the Olaplex products I have used to help repair my damaged, dry and brittle hair.
I have so much hair loss.
What do you recommend to help stimulate new hair growth??
What Nioxin products do I use?
Nioxin system 4 Shampoo / Nioxin system 4 Conditioner
I need a good hair mask.
Which one do you recommend?
My favorite hair mask is from Colleen Rothschild.
This one smells amazing and I use it almost every time I wash my hair. The directions say to apply on damp or towel dried hair and then rinse.
I have used it that way and also applied it to my hair after getting out of the shower, just on the ends, and using as a leave in conditioner. If you have thin hair or the type that gets oily easily I recommend not applying this mask too close to your roots.
Which vitamins have you been taking??
The brand I’ve been taking is PINK and you can purchase them on Amazon. I found them randomly at the grocery store when we lived in Texas at HEB. I have been taking them for about eight months and they taste really good.
They have several different vitamins to choose from for women.
I take the Dazzling Hair, Skin & Nails gummies.
I am a real stickler about liquid medicine or gummy vitamins because I usually can’t stand the taste of them. These are surprisingly really yummy with a strawberry flavor.
These are not for not for hair health but I also take their
L Theanine Calm Caps
about 30 minutes to an hour before bed to help me relax before bedtime.
What I like the most is they don’t make me feel too drugged or hungover in the morning. I cannot take heavy medications to help me sleep or I will never wake up in the morning.
There is nothing worse than feeling hungover from medicine and these help me calm down in the evening and sleep peacefully all night.
Let me note, I am not a doctor nor am I professional so please make sure you read the labels and consult with a physician if you are unsure before using any of the products I have recommended.
This is my own personal hair journey so keep in mind these products may not work for everyone.
We all have different types of hair and just because I have used extensions and highlighted my hair does not mean you will have the same outcome as I have.
There is a highlights tab on my Instagram page with several videos of me sharing these products which I will link for you HERE.

If you have any additional questions that you feel like I haven’t answered, please leave a comment on this blog post and I will answer them here.
I truly hope this post has encouraged you and know you are not alone in the struggle with hair loss, insecurities and battles you may be facing.
Thank you for this post. I also have very fine thin naturally (although somewhat dirty now as I am older) blonde hair. I finally bought into tape in extensions. I have a great honest stylist that during our second “move up,” said no, I am not comfortable moving these up – let’s give your scalp a break. I am so sad and my hair feels even thinner. I am going to focus on building up my natural hair and use your tips (I live in TX too, HEB YAY). Thank you again for your tips.
Omg I am going through the same thing as you did .. just took my extensions out a month ago. My hair looks awful. I am so scared to high light it and I have always been a blonde. I have a layer that goes around the whole top of my head. Even with short shoulder length hair now (unhealthy) that layer all around looks stupid and I have bangs. Ugh
Hi my name is reagan and I have the same thing going on that you had but mine was from tape ins and they mad me have some balding spots and i have tried anything i can think of so doing think that the things you used would help.
The blog was really interesting and informative , thank you for sharing.
